Report: Texans' Stingley expected to miss 6-8 weeks with hamstring injury

Houston Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. is expected to be out for six-to-eight weeks due to a hamstring injury suffered in Wednesday's practice, sources told Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2.

It was reported Thursday that Stingley would miss Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars but his recovery timetable hadn't yet been determined. However, an MRI revealed the extent of his hamstring injury, Wilson adds.

Stingley was placed on injured reserve Saturday, knocking him out for at least four games.

The 2022 No. 3 pick's rookie season was also cut short by a hamstring injury sustained in Week 10.

Veteran Shaquill Griffin, who signed with the Texans as a free agent this past offseason, is expected to take over Stingley's starting job.

The AFC South club's secondary has been hit hard by injuries to start the season. Cornerback Tavierre Thomas is set to miss Week 3 after he underwent surgery for a broken hand, safety Jimmie Ward returned to practice this week after missing the first two games with a hip injury, and safety Jalen Pitre sat out Week 2 with a bruised lung.
