Chiefs' Kelce returns to practice ahead of Week 2 matchup with Jaguars
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce will practice in a limited capacity ahead of the team's Week 2 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The All-Pro tight end missed the club's Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions after hyperextending his knee and sustaining a bone bruise in practice leading up to the season opener.
Backup tight ends Noah Gray and Blake Bell combined for five catches, 43 yards, and one touchdown on eight targets in Kelce's absence.
The Chiefs would gladly welcome Kelce's return after their struggles at receiver in Week 1. Drops and a lack of separation forced Kansas City into multiple errors in the contest, including Lions rookie Brian Branch scoring a pick-6 on a pass dropped by Kadarius Toney.
Kelce has posted seven consecutive seasons with more than 1,000 yards receiving. The soon-to-be 34-year-old hauled in 110 receptions for 1,338 yards and 12 touchdowns last campaign, earning his eighth Pro Bowl nod and fourth first-team All-Pro selection.
The Jaguars allowed 59 yards on five receptions to the Indianapolis Colts tight ends in Week 1.
