Seahawks expect Smith-Njigba to play vs. Rams after wrist surgery

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll anticipates that rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba will play in Sunday's opener against the Los Angeles Rams, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Smith-Njigba underwent wrist surgery after suffering a fracture in the Seahawks' preseason matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 19.

The first-round selection was expected to be sidelined for three-to-four weeks but was able to resume practicing on a limited basis 10 days later.

Smith-Njigba is set to be the Seahawks' third receiver behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. He starred at Ohio State in college, racking up 1,606 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 2021 before an injury-hit 2022 campaign.
