The Washington Commanders announced Tuesday that they parted ways with offensive coordinator Scott Turner.

Washington ranked 20th in offensive yards per game (330.3) and 24th in points per game (18.9) this season as the club stumbled to an 8-8-1 record.

Quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke showed a few flashes under Turner, but neither played well enough to hang onto the No. 1 job. Rookie Sam Howell started the team's Week 18 win over the Dallas Cowboys after the Commanders were eliminated from playoff contention.

Turner joined the Commanders in 2020 after two seasons as the Carolina Panthers' quarterbacks coach. The 40-year-old has also spent time with the Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings.
