The Chicago Bears have agreed to release quarterback Nick Foles, his agent, Justin Schulman, told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
"Ryan Poles did the classy thing, and Nick appreciates it," Schulman said, referring to the Bears general manager.
Chicago had been seeking a trade for the veteran signal-caller, but with the draft complete, it decided to allow Foles to find his next destination.
The 33-year-old spent the last two seasons with the NFC North club. He started seven games and appeared in two more in 2020 after losing a training camp battle with Mitchell Trubisky. Foles then started one game in 2021 after Justin Fields and Andy Dalton both suffered injuries.
Foles should receive interest for backup roles despite his struggles with the Bears and during a one-year stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019.
The quarterback owns a 29-27 regular-season record and has thrown for 14,003 yards and 82 touchdowns against 42 interceptions. Foles is 4-2 in the playoffs, including his 2017 Super Bowl win with the Philadelphia Eagles.
