Report: Bears' Marsh fined for taunting penalty vs. Steelers

The NFL fined Chicago Bears edge rusher Cassius Marsh $5,972 for unsportsmanlike conduct stemming from his taunting penalty against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Marsh was penalized 15 yards after sacking Ben Roethlisberger on a crucial third-down play in the fourth quarter. The 29-year-old made no overt gesture or remark to solicit the flag, leaving the Bears irate and the Monday Night Football broadcast crew in disbelief.

"I saw the player, after he made a big play, run toward the bench area of the Pittsburgh Steelers and posture in such a way that I felt he was taunting them," referee Tony Corrente explained after the game.

Marsh plans to appeal the fine, according to Pelissero.

Meanwhile, the NFL hasn't commented on Marsh's allegation that Corrente hip-checked him before sending the penalty marker flying into the air at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

Marsh was making his Bears debut after the team called him up from the practice squad as a fill-in for the injured Khalil Mack. Chicago lost 29-27.
