San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday he's "pretty optimistic" quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be ready to play in Sunday night's matchup with the Indianapolis Colts, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic.

Garoppolo missed Week 5 with a calf injury and the 49ers had a bye in Week 6. Rookie Trey Lance started in the veteran's absence but is now dealing with a knee sprain.

Garoppolo said before practice Wednesday that his calf felt "really good." It's unclear what San Francisco would do if Garoppolo isn't able to start against the Colts, as there is no other quarterback on its active roster.

Garoppolo completed 66.1% of his passes for 925 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions across four starts before he went down injured. The 29-year-old is 24-10 as a starter for the 49ers, but he has struggled to stay healthy.

The 49ers will look to snap a three-game losing streak when they take on the Colts.
