Wilson confident despite rough start: 'I knew it was going to be like this'

Zach Wilson insisted Sunday that his confidence hasn't wavered despite failing to get the New York Jets in the end zone for a second consecutive week.

"It's tough, but it's making us stronger," the rookie quarterback said after the Jets were blanked 26-0 by the Denver Broncos. "I feel like it's making me stronger. This is hard. I didn't experience this in college. And the crazy thing is, I knew it was going to be like this."

Wilson committed his sixth and seventh interceptions of the year and threw for only 160 yards versus the Broncos, marking his lowest output in three contests. He tossed four picks a week ago versus the New England Patriots and threw his only two touchdown passes during the season opener against the Carolina Panthers.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Wilson had his best week of practice in Week 3, but it didn't matter against the Broncos. In addition to the poor passing display, Wilson took five sacks and absorbed several other hits.

"He's got to learn - this is the NFL, you've got to get the ball out," said offensive lineman Greg Van Roten. "You can't hold on to it and try to make a play and throw it deep downfield. And we've got to protect him better, it starts with us up front."

The Jets, who have been outscored 51-6 over their last two games, will look for their first victory in Week 4 against the Tennessee Titans.
