Report: Several win-now teams mulling trade for Dolphins' Howard

Several teams "in win-now mode" are considering making a move for Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard, who is unhappy with his contract, reports NFL Network's Mike Silver.

The 2020 All-Pro signed a five-year, $75.25-million deal in 2019. But then Howard watched the Dolphins sign Byron Jones to a five-year, $82.5-million contract prior to last season.

On the field, the two were worlds apart: Howard led the league with 10 interceptions, while Jones grabbed two picks and allowed five touchdowns and a 60% completion percentage while in coverage.

Howard wants a new deal more in line with his performance, reports Silver, who adds that the Dolphins are unlikely to restructure Howard's contract.

It will likely take a first-round pick and the promise of a richer deal to land the 28-year-old via trade, Silver adds.

The former second-round pick has reached two Pro Bowls in his five seasons in Miami. He's recorded 22 career interceptions.
