The Cleveland Browns are nearing a three-year deal with safety John Johnson III worth $33.8 million, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports.
The contract will also contain $24 million guaranteed, Garafolo adds.
The Browns have been prioritizing the safety position lately, using a second-round pick on Grant Delpit in the 2020 draft and trading for Ronnie Harrison prior to the 2020 season. However, Delpit missed the campaign with a torn Achilles and Harrison started seven games.

Johnson is considered one of the league's best young safeties. The four-year pro has recorded eight career interceptions while twice topping 100 tackles in a season.
Former teammate Jalen Ramsey sang Johnson's praises upon learning of the reported deal.
