The Buffalo Bills have released wide receiver John Brown, the team announced Wednesday.

Brown thanked Buffalo for his two seasons with the team on Instagram:

Brown led the Bills with a career-high 72 catches for 1,060 yards and six touchdowns in 2019, but he appeared in just nines games due to injury last season, and the arrival of star wideout Stefon Diggs reduced his role when healthy. The 30-year-old finished 2020 with 33 catches for 458 yards and three scores.

Buffalo will save $7.93 million against the salary cap by cutting Brown in the final season of a three-year, $27-million deal, according to Over The Cap.

The Bills also announced the release of defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson. Fellow defensive lineman Vernon Butler agreed to a reduced deal to remain with Buffalo, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Jefferson, 27, racked up three sacks, 23 total tackles, and one forced fumble in his first season with Buffalo in 2020.
