Report: Rams exploring possible Stafford trade
The Los Angeles Rams are looking into acquiring quarterback Matthew Stafford from the Detroit Lions, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Stafford, who reportedly requested a trade at the end of the 2020 season, apparently considers the Rams a viable contender in his market. Jared Goff is signed for four more seasons, with $27.5 million guaranteed to him in 2021, but Los Angeles is reportedly engaged with multiple teams about the possibility of trading him.
The Rams have refused to commit to Goff since the end of his turnover-filled 2020 campaign. Head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead both said Goff is a Ram "right now" after Los Angeles was knocked out of the playoffs. McVay and Goff reportedly ended the season with a strained relationship.
Stafford is coming off his 12th season with the Lions, who drafted him first overall in 2009. The 32-year-old threw for 4,084 yards with 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this season, registering a passer rating of 96.3.
New Lions general manager Brad Holmes was hired from the Rams, where he'd worked as the director of college scouting since 2013.
