Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson likely won't be on an NFL sideline for the 2021 season.

Pederson texted The Philadelphia Inquirer's Les Bowen on Tuesday night and said he is "leaning toward taking the next year off and preparing for (the) next season."

The 52-year-old hasn't been mentioned as a contender for the Houston Texans' head coaching job, the lone remaining vacancy outside of Philadelphia's.

Pederson has reportedly spoken with the Seattle Seahawks regarding their offensive coordinator role following the dismissal of Brian Schottenheimer.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy similarly opted for a year away from football in 2019 after being fired by the Green Bay Packers. Dallas hired him ahead of the 2020 campaign.

Pederson ended his time in Philadelphia with a 42-37-1 record, a 4-2 postseason mark, and a Super Bowl victory during the 2017 season.
