The Philadelphia Eagles are trying to balance their quarterback situation with a head coaching search.

Philadelphia's brass has told coaching candidates during interviews that the head coach will have a say on who the quarterback is moving forward, but the team intends to keep Carson Wentz, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

The Eagles still believe in Wentz despite his disastrous 2020 season and benching for rookie Jalen Hurts, Garafolo adds.

"If you're a head coach going into those meetings saying, 'I want Wentz out and Hurts in,' I think that's probably going to hurt your standing in this interview process," Garafolo said.

Philly parted ways with head coach Doug Pederson after five seasons and a disappointing 4-11-1 record this past year. Reports of a rift between Pederson and Wentz emerged over the last few weeks.

The former No. 2 overall pick may have to battle Hurts for the starting spot in 2021 if he returns. Where he stands with the club may also depend on who gets hired as head coach.

The Eagles have interviewed a number of candidates since letting Pederson go. They've reportedly talked with Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, and New England Patriots assistant Jerod Mayo.
