Report: 'Strong possibility' Texans make Crennel full-time HC for 2021

The Houston Texans are discussing giving interim head coach Romero Crennel the full-time role for 2021, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The reported stop-gap move, which sources told Rapoport is a "strong possibility," would give Houston stability next season and allow it to conduct a traditional in-person search in the 2022 offseason when COVID-19 restrictions are hoped to have been lifted.

The 73-year-old served as head coach for the Cleveland Browns from 2005-08 and the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012.

Crennel, who has held various defensive roles on Houston's staff since 2014, is apparently well-liked and respected in the Texans' locker room.

If Crennel is retained, vice president of football operations Jack Easterby reportedly would stay on during the one-year transition and could remain in the role if the Texans don't hire a general manager.
