The New Orleans Saints weren't alone in reportedly pursuing an unconventional sign-and-trade for Jadeveon Clowney.
The Baltimore Ravens also attempted to form a deal with a third team - the Jacksonville Jaguars - that would've allowed them to essentially trade picks for the cap space and cash needed to sign the pass-rusher, sources told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
The NFL rejected the idea when approached by the Saints, who would've lost out on Clowney to Baltimore even if the league deemed it legal, Florio added.
New Orleans was reportedly in talks with the Cleveland Browns to be the third team.
Under the proposal, Cleveland would've signed Clowney to a one-year, $15-million deal and paid his $5-million signing bonus before trading him to the NFC South club for a second-round pick and another player to clear cap room. New Orleans would've then been on the hook for the remaining $10 million.
Clowney ultimately signed with the Tennessee Titans, ending the two teams' chances of making a last-minute blockbuster move before the regular season.
