Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez have called in a star-studded cast of reinforcements for their bid to purchase the New York Mets.

According to Vaughn McClure of ESPN, the list of investors now involved with A-Rod and JLo include:

  • Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher
  • Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce
  • Three-time Pro Bowl running back DeMarco Murray
  • Ex-NFL offensive lineman Joe Thomas
  • Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal
  • Denver Nuggets center Mason Plumlee

The group entered an initial bid of $1.7 billion to buy the MLB franchise, with A-Rod and JLo contributing $300 million. While Steve Cohen's reported bid is $2 billion, the Wilpon family that currently owns the Mets reportedly prefers to sell to A-Rod's group if the bids are close.

"Being a former athlete and having a chance to be a part of a group trying to purchase a professional team, it's pretty cool," Urlacher said on Monday. "It's especially cool to be involved with Alex. Alex is the man. You've got Kelce, Joe Thomas, DeMarco Murray. It's great to be in a group with them."
