While he's pleased Cam Newton is no longer a free agent, Richard Sherman expressed his frustration regarding the money on the quarterback's new deal.

The San Francisco 49ers cornerback called Newton's contract with the New England Patriots "ridiculous," as the former MVP agreed to less money than a handful of backups.

"A transcendent talent and less talented QBs are getting 15-16 (million dollars) a year. Disgusting," Sherman wrote.

Newton reportedly signed a one-year, incentive-laden agreement with New England that could reach up to $7.5 million after he was released by the Carolina Panthers earlier this offseason.

A number of backup quarterbacks could make more than the 31-year-old this year, including Marcus Mariota ($7.5 million), Case Keenum ($5.5 million), AJ McCarron ($4 million) and Chase Daniel ($3.5 million).

Newton, who declared himself fully healthy after battling a foot injury last season, will presumably battle sophomore Jarrett Stidham and veteran Brian Hoyer for the Patriots' starting job.
