The NFL plans to start training camps on time despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said teams should get ready to host games at their stadiums and to engage with fans both at stadiums and via media partners, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

For most teams, July 28 is the start date for training camp. NFL executive president Jeff Pash said teams have been advised that those camps will open on the normal schedule, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

For now, players have been advised by the NFLPA to cancel any private workouts scheduled in order to get into accordance with social distancing. However, some, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, have continued working out with a group of teammates despite the number of coronavirus cases spiking in areas like Florida.

"The NFLPA and the NFL are in the same exact place, which is we want whatever makes the safest possible environment for all of our constituents, whether they be players, coaches, trainers, medical staff, anyone in that team environment," said NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.

"We're going to work very hard to educate everyone about the steps that we feel collectively are going to be most effective in reducing risk for everyone."
