Goff: 'Tough' to see Gurley, Cooks leave Rams due to cap crunch
The Los Angeles Rams found themselves in a salary crunch this offseason. As a result, they parted ways with running back Todd Gurley and receiver Brandin Cooks.
Quarterback Jared Goff has a lot to do with the team's financial situation. He inked a four-year, $134-million extension in September and owns a $36-million cap hit in 2020.
On Wednesday, the four-year pro told reporters it was difficult to see Gurley and Cooks leave town.
"It's tough to lose friends," Goff said. "It's always super tough to lose friends and teammates and that's part of the business. I'm in Year 5 now - I'm kind of getting numb to it a little bit. At the same time, me and Brandin and me and Todd are extremely close and always will be."
Goff added that he'd be open to restructuring his own contract, but did not say he'd be willing to accept a pay cut.
"I think there's been some stuff about being able to clear some cap space," the quarterback said. "And if so, I'm all for it. I don't see why not. It doesn't change anything for me and helps the team out."
The deal Goff signed last year includes $110 million guaranteed, the most in NFL history.
