Report: Gordon plans to move on from Chargers in 2020
Despite officially ending his holdout Thursday, Melvin Gordon plans to move on from the Los Angeles Chargers this offseason, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Gordon is scheduled to hit free agency in 2020 and is likely to seek a contract among the NFL's highest-paid running backs.
The 26-year-old continued his holdout into the regular season in hopes of earning at least $13 million per year on a new deal. The Chargers were unwilling to meet his request and granted Gordon permission to seek a trade soon after.
The tailback lost out on over $989,000 worth of base salary and will be subjected to $1.2 million worth of fines due to his three-game holdout, according to Schefter. However, he'll still earn $4.62 million of base salary for the rest of the 2019 campaign.
Gordon won't suit up for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins but could make his season debut in Week 5 versus the Denver Broncos.
The Chargers have relied on the duo of Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson in Gordon's absence. His return will round out one of the league's top backfields.
