Redskins' Reed in concussion protocol after helmet-to-helmet hit

The Washington Redskins placed tight end Jordan Reed in the concussion protocol after he took a big hit in Thursday's preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said Reed started developing concussion symptoms at halftime after initially being able to remain in the game, according to Rhiannon Walker of The Athletic.

Reed has suffered six documented concussions during an injury-plagued career, according to Sports Injury Predictor.

The veteran pass-catcher took a helmet-to-helmet shot from Falcons safety Keanu Neal while attempting to catch a pass from Case Keenum.

Reed has a long injury history, including multiple knee, hamstring, and toe ailments, among others. He's never suited up for a full 16-game campaign in six NFL seasons.
