The Green Bay Packers released standout defensive lineman Mike Daniels on Wednesday after seven seasons.
Green Bay saved about $8 million against the salary cap by cutting him. Daniels was entering the final season of a four-year, $41-million contract.
"We want to thank Mike for his tremendous contributions on the field, in the locker room, and in the community over the last seven seasons," general manager Brian Gutekunst said in a news release. "His incredible work ethic propelled him to be a standout player during his time in Green Bay."
The Packers looked to trade Daniels before releasing him, but failed to find a partner, a source told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. The 30-year-old will look to sign with a Super Bowl contender as a free agent, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Daniels was a Pro Bowler in 2017 after racking up 49 tackles and five sacks in 14 games. He accrued 18 tackles and two sacks in 10 appearances last year, missing the other six contests due to a foot injury.
