The Arizona Cardinals selected Washington State safety Jalen Thompson in the fifth round of the NFL's supplemental draft Wednesday.

The supplemental draft is an avenue to the NFL for underclassmen deemed ineligible for the upcoming college season following the entry deadline for April's NFL draft.

Thompson, a three-year starter with the Cougars, lost his eligibility due to an NCAA violation after purchasing a non-steroid, over-the-counter supplement at a nutrition store, a source told Theo Lawson of the Spokesman-Review in June.

He added 191 total tackles, 23 passes defensed, and six interceptions during his three-year college career.

Arizona forfeits a fifth-round pick in the 2020 draft in order to select Thompson.
