The New York Giants have discussed the possibility of trading outside linebacker Olivier Vernon this offseason, sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Set to make $15.5 million in 2019, Vernon could potentially be cut if the team doesn't find a trade partner, ESPN's Jordan Raanan adds.

Including his roster bonus, the defender will count for a $19.5-million cap hit this season. The Giants would clear $11.5 million in cap space if he's released.

Vernon signed a five-year, $85-million contract as a free agent in 2016. He's accumulated 22 sacks and four forced fumbles in three seasons in New York.
