Los Angeles Chargers defensive tackle Brandon Mebane intends to play in the AFC divisional round on Sunday, days after the death of his infant daughter.

Makenna Mebane, who was born prematurely in November, died Jan. 3. She was born with trisomy 13, a rare chromosome disorder.

"She wasn't getting better so we had to make a decision," Mebane told reporters Wednesday, according to Charlotte Carroll of Sports Illustrated. "She kept having bleeds from the stomach, and then when they tried to feed her, it wasn't good for her liver."

Mebane was absent Wild Card Weekend when the Chargers defeated the Baltimore Ravens. Los Angeles is slated to face the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon.

Mebane said his family is doing "pretty good" given the circumstances.

"Just trying to take one day at a time," he added. "Still thankful (for having her in our life). Thank God every day. Still pray."

Mebane, 33, had 41 tackles and one sack in 12 regular-season outings for the Chargers.
