Gardner said that he would like to be the Yankees' leadoff hitter, adding that "it's not something I'm really concerned with, but maybe if I have a really good spring it's something they'll consider," the New York Daily News reports.
Gardner has gotten intermittent opportunities to lead off in the past and hasn't really taken advantage of them, hitting just .254 as a leadoff hitter in 105 games. If he does get the opportunity, he might score more runs, but it's more likely that Derek Jeter or Ichiro Suzuki will hit first the majority of the time.
