Watson responds to racist comment made by superintendent

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson responded to a racist comment directed toward him by a Texas school superintendent on Tuesday.

Onalaska (TX) superintendent Lynn Redden was incensed by Watson's decision to hold onto the ball during the final play of Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans as the clock expired. Redden then took to Facebook to disparage Watson.

"That may have been the most inept quarterback decision I've seen in the NFL," Redden wrote. "When you need precision decision making you can't count on a black quarterback."

Watson responded Tuesday to reporters. When asked if he had experienced racist incidents in his career, Watson simply replied, "of course."

"This is everyday life, I guess. I'm all about love so I don't focus on none of that, I love all people," Watson said via NFL Network's James Palmer.

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien was infuriated by Redden's remarks and came to his quarterback's defense Tuesday.

"I don't want to waste a lot of time responding to outdated, inaccurate, ignorant, idiotic statements. I'll just let Deshaun's proven success on the field, his character off the field speak for itself. He's one of the greatest guys I've ever coached. He represents everything that's right about football, about life. His teammates respect him, his coaching staff respect him. In this day and age, it's just amazing that this B.S. exists," O'Brien said via Mark Berman of FOX 26.

"Our fans love Deshaun and we're really concentrating on the Giants. But I felt like I wasted a minute and a half responding to that B.S."

Redden apologized for his comment but hasn't been formally disciplined by the school district.
