The Sam Darnold era is off and running in New York!

Led by their rookie quarterback, the Jets shocked the world on Monday Night Football, dominating the Detroit Lions en route to a 48-17 victory. Darnold completed 16 of 21 passes for 198 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the blowout win.

The No. 3 overall pick's NFL debut could not have started any worse, however, as Darnold tossed a pick-6 on his first throw:

But Darnold - the youngest starting quarterback in the Super Bowl era - showed the poise and mental fortitude of a savvy veteran, rebounding with a number of quality passes after his interception.

He wasn't perfect, but the rookie signal-caller gave Jets fans a glimpse of what the future - and possibly the present - could look like.

Here are the top plays from Darnold's NFL debut:

Darnold's first career touchdown came on a pretty deep ball to Robby Anderson. The third-year receiver made an excellent play on the ball, and seemed to boost his quarterback's confidence.

Darnold has an innate ability to extend plays that most rookies simply do not possess. Here, he avoids the sack, rolls to his right, and delivers a strike on the run across his body to Quincy Enunwa for a first down.

New York's offensive onslaught began with this 21-yard touchdown from Darnold to Enunwa. The wideout got open in the flat on a slick play design from offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates.

Late in the fourth quarter, Darnold led the J-E-T-S chant with a group of supporters in Ford Field.
