Browns' Gordon started accidentally vs. Steelers

If it were up to Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson, wide receiver Josh Gordon wouldn't have started Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Gordon, who missed most of the summer to focus on his mental and physical health, wasn't expected to begin the season opener on the field. However, a communication breakdown between offensive coordinator Todd Haley and Jackson led to Gordon being part of the Browns' first offensive play.

"I saw it just like you did," Jackson said Sunday, according to ESPN's Pat McManamon. "Not what I wanted, but we will get through that, too."

Haley had Jackson's approval to use Gordon for a specific play, but unexpectedly opted to call it first.

"The game's over now," Jackson added Monday. "So to talk about it, what's it going to do? Nothing. I've dealt with it and we'll move on."

Gordon's lone catch on Sunday was a 17-yard touchdown that tied the game at 21. The Browns and Steelers would remain deadlocked through overtime and both opened their season with a tie.
