The Los Angeles Rams and superstar defensive tackle Aaron Donald have finalized a six-year contract extension reportedly worth $135 million, including $87 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Rams confirmed the length of the agreement, but not the financial terms.

Donald's reported average annual salary of $22.5 million would be the largest for a defensive player in NFL history. His $87-million guarantee would be tied for the fourth-highest of any current contract.

Donald had been holding out of all preseason activities while demanding a new contract. It was the second straight year he was holding out, though last season he reported to the Rams on the eve of the regular season.

The 27-year-old is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and has been named an All-Pro in three of his first four seasons.

Donald registered 41 tackles, 11 sacks, and five forced fumbles in 14 contests last year. He'll join free-agent acquisition Ndamukong Suh, also a three-time All-Pro, in the trenches upon reporting to the Rams.
