Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was reportedly told by the NFL to stop discussing national anthem policies after he incited another round of controversy with his comments last week, according to Clarence E. Hill of the Dallas Star-Telegram.

Jones was scheduled to do interviews with several local media outlets Sunday evening. Hill reports that Jones told those outlets he wouldn't take questions about the anthem because he'd been instructed by the league not to comment on the issue any further.

Mike Doocy of Fox 4 decided to cancel his scheduled interview with Jones as a result. He said, "In fairness to Jerry, his stance now is that the NFL doesn't want him to talk about the anthem either."

Jones stirred the pot Wednesday when he declared his players must "stand for the anthem, toe on the line." The NFL and NFLPA had been trying to renegotiate a uniform policy when Jones spoke out.

A day before Jones' remark, Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown revealed the NFL had directed owners not to speak about the issue.

Jones has been outspoken about wanting to keep politics and football separate, though his club drew attention at training camp for a political banner brought into the venue by a group of fans.
