Tavon Austin doesn't care where Cowboys deploy him: 'I'm a playmaker'

Tavon Austin isn't concerned with what position he plays for the Dallas Cowboys, as long as it's one that allows him to get his hands on the pigskin.

"At the end of the day, I'm a playmaker," Austin told Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News. "That's how I describe myself. I don't really care where I'm at on the field. I just want the ball and a little bit of space and let me create and I'm going from there."

Austin was traded by the Los Angeles Rams during the NFL draft to the Cowboys, who plan to use the 28-year-old as a receiver/running back hybrid. Austin could also factor into the equation on special teams as a returner.

"Hopefully, I win the punt return job," he said. "That's always been my dream to do and still is. Pretty much get the ball in my hands. That's the role I'm going to take, get the ball in my hands and make something happen.

"An athlete who creates, the thing I did my whole life. I'm cool with it, running back, receiver, punt returner, it really doesn't make a difference to me. I just definitely want my opportunity to get the ball in my hands and get a little bit of space and do what I do best."

Despite proclaiming himself a playmaker, Austin provided the Rams with just 383 yards of total offense (receiving, rushing, punt returning, and kickoff returning) to go with one touchdown a year ago.

The former eighth overall pick was, largely, a disappointment over his five campaigns with the Rams. His best season came in 2015 when he totaled 473 receiving yards and 434 rushing yards.
