49ers' Foster has domestic violence charges dropped

Brace Hemmelgarn / USA TODAY Sports

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster received good news Wednesday, as the domestic violence charges against him were dismissed, according to NFL Network's Patrick Claybon.

Judge Nona L. Klippen cited insufficient evidence as the reason not to proceed with the charges.

Klippen will also reduce Foster's weapons charge, with a pretrial date set for June 6, per Claybon.

The result was expected after Foster's ex-girlfriend testified that her domestic violence claims were false and motivated by anger and money.

San Francisco owner Jed York released a statement shortly afterward saying that Foster will have the opportunity to rejoin the team Thursday for organized team activities.

The young defender isn't out of the woods yet, however. Foster is due in an Alabama courtroom June 20 to face a marijuana possession charge from his January arrest. He's also subject to league discipline.
