McDaniels 'very happy with decision' to stay with Patriots over Colts' HC job
New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has finally broken his silence about the drama he created in February when he reneged on a deal to coach the Indianapolis Colts.
Primed to become the head coach of the Colts, McDaniels backed out at the last minute and instead chose to stay on with the Patriots. The decision by McDaniels came after New England's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII.
Three months later, McDaniels has no regrets, saying Friday that he's "very happy with the decision" he made, according to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald.
McDaniels was believed to be following then Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia out the door. Patricia became the new head coach of the Detroit Lions, but McDaniels eventually chose to remain behind head coach Bill Belichick in New England.
The move reignited discussion on whether the NFL would change rules regarding the hiring of coaches, but those talks were tabled indefinitely in late March.
