Less than a year after launching his weight-loss project, former NFL quarterback Jared Lorenzen is well on his way to getting healthy.

The "Hefty Lefty," who ballooned to over 500 pounds in 2016, began chronicling his weight loss through "The Jared Lorenzen Project" on Facebook as a way to inspire others. He has has since lost 100 pounds, as he revealed in an interview with Charles Curtis of For The Win.

"It turns out if you put your body through hell for about 15 years, it doesn't want to fight back," Lorenzen said. "I still have these dreams I can do what I used to and it's not necessarily true. I put my body through a little bit too much too fast and had to recover from it."

Lorenzen aims to walk 10,000 steps each day and has adjusted his diet to include "a whole lot of rotisserie chicken" (skin off), along with shakes for lunch and strawberries and unsalted cashews for snacks. He also does public boot camps and health walks, like the one he hosted at the University of Kentucky earlier this month.

"When I get out of bed, I'll grab my phone and start reading messages, like, 'I was 340 (pounds) and I'm down to 305,'" Lorenzen added of others reaching out. "It's like, get your butt out of bed and go do what you gotta do!"
