The Los Angeles Chargers have found a new potential backup for Philip Rivers as the team announced Sunday that it has reached an agreement with quarterback Geno Smith.

After spending the first four seasons of his career with the New York Jets, Smith crossed over to the other locker room in MetLife Stadium to suit up with the New York Giants last year.

The move reunites Smith with head coach Anthony Lynn, who was with the Jets for the first two seasons of the quarterback's career.

The 27-year-old saw action in two games for the NFC East club, completing 58.3 percent of his passes for 212 yards and one touchdown.
