Giants owner Tisch: Reports of Beckham holdout 'hypothetical'
New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch tried to provide some clarity - and perhaps damage control - on the Odell Beckham contract situation.
Speaking at the NFL annual meeting in Orlando on Monday, Tisch made a number of statements on rumors surrounding his star receiver.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Monday morning that Beckham won't set foot on a field in 2018 until he receives a contract extension. Beckham is currently set to play next season on a fifth-year option that will pay him $8.4 million.
Tisch called such talk "hypothetical," according to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.
He added that contract negotiations between Beckham and new general manager Dave Gettleman have already begun, though they are in the very early stages.
"I do hope that Odell is with the Giants for the 2018 season. I would like that very much," Tisch reiterated.
Gettleman said he will address the contract situation on Tuesday.
As for Beckham's latest video controversy, Tisch called it "background noise" and said he didn't even watch it.
Tisch's comments sharply contrast those of fellow co-owner John Mara, who said he's growing "tired" of answering questions about Beckham's antics.
