Report: Texans to release Brian Cushing

The Houston Texans informed longtime linebacker Brian Cushing that he'll be released before the new league year starts on March 14, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The Texans will save just over $7.24 million in cap space by parting ways with Cushing, who had two years remaining on his six-year, $52.5-million contract, according to Spotrac.

Cushing, a first-round pick from 2009, served a 10-game suspension in 2017 due to a violation of the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. It was his second positive test for PEDs.

Second-year linebackers Zach Cunningham and Dylan Cole impressed in his absence, though the Texans may look to add further reinforcements via either the draft or free agency.
