The Indianapolis Colts officially announced the hiring of Frank Reich as their new head coach Sunday. This time, all of the paperwork is signed.
After New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels backed out of a deal with the Colts at the final hour, Indy reopened its coaching search and poached Reich, the offensive coordinator of the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles.
"We are extremely excited to announce Frank Reich as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts," owner Jim Irsay said in a release. "Frank has all the ingredients of a successful head coach: intelligence, innovation, character, organizational and leadership skills, and a commanding presence."
Reich, a former quarterback, got his coaching start as an intern with the Colts in 2006. He graduated to offensive assistant and quarterbacks coach by 2009.
He's spent the past four seasons as an offensive coordinator, first with the then-San Diego Chargers, and the last two years with the Eagles. He's had a hand in developing Carson Wentz into an MVP candidate by just his sophomore year.
The Colts also interviewed Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and New Orleans Saints assistant head coach/tight ends coach Dan Campbell during their second search.
A formal introductory press conference will be held Tuesday.
