Texans announce long-term deals for O'Brien, new GM Gaine

Jasen Vinlove / USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Texans locked up two key pieces of its leadership Saturday, announcing an extension for head coach Bill O'Brien along with the hiring of Brian Gaine as general manager.

The contracts will reportedly run through the 2022 season, according to John McClain of The Houston Chronicle.

It was previously reported that O'Brien was negotiating a long-term deal with the team, and it seems both sides only needed a matter of days to get something done.

Earlier reports also indicated Gaine would be brought in to fill the GM role after Rick Smith took a leave of absence to support his wife in her battle with breast cancer.

In four years with the Texans, O'Brien has led the team to the playoffs twice and with a 31-33 overall record.
