Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald is having a superlative season and few would be surprised if he wins Defensive Player of the Year for the first time.
Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips went one step further Thursday.
"I was thinking more like most valuable player in the league," Phillips told Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times.
Donald is in the middle of an outstanding season, recording 39 tackles, 11 sacks, and four forced fumbles as the Rams look to clinch the NFC West.
Lawrence Taylor was the last defensive player to win NFL MVP, recording 20.5 sacks in 1986 while leading to the New York Giants to a Super Bowl victory.
Donald would become the second defensive tackle to win the award, after Alan Page captured the accolade in 1971 while starring for the Minnesota Vikings.
