Cam Jordan shooting for rare football 'triple-double'
Cam Jordan has been tearing it up as the leader of the New Orleans Saints' surging defense this season, and now finds himself chasing a rare accomplishment.
With 10 sacks, 13 tackles for a loss, and between six-to-eight pass defenses (depending on how official stats keepers tally) through 12 games this season, the Saints defensive end is comparing his balanced game to basketball.
"I'm trying to get this triple-double," Jordan told ESPN's Mike Triplett about his recent statistical success. "Before I start tooting my own horn - I'm not gonna do it - I don't know a defensive end who's doing what I'm doing."
Jordan, who is referred to as "the best all-around defensive end in the National Football League" by defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, is correct in his assessment that no other player at his position is matching his numbers across all three categories.
No defensive player has accomplished double-digit stats in sacks, tackles for a loss, and pass defensed since 2014, when J.J. Watt and Clay Matthews both met the mark. Watt won Defensive Player of the Year that season and became the first defensive player since Lawrence Taylor in 1986 to win the Bert Bell Award as the best NFL player voted on by the Maxwell Football Club.
