The NFL's compensation committee will hold a conference call Monday to discuss contract negotiations with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen report.

In an August counter-proposal, Goodell asked for a salary of $49.5 million per year, lifetime use of a private jet, and lifetime health insurance for life for his family, a source informed ESPN.

One owner referred to Goodell's salary request as "offensive" and "unseemly." An executive suggested prohibiting Goodell from earning more than the highest-paid player in the league.

However, NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart called the report of Goodell's counter-proposal untrue.

"The only element of the ESPN report that is true is that there is a regularly scheduled compensation committee conference call on Monday," Lockhart said in a statement obtained by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

"There is no basis in fact for any of the other reporting. Those trying to peddle that nonsense are profoundly misinformed or deliberately trying to mislead."

The six team owners that make up the committee were said to be nearing a five-year extension with Goodell in August, but Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones - a non-voting, ad-hoc member - has stalled talks.

Jones has threatened to sue the league and committee if plans for an extension aren't nixed.
