Texans players considered walkout in wake of owner's 'inmates' comment

Houston Texans players wanted to walk out Friday in the wake of team owner Bob McNair comparing NFL player protests to "inmates running the prison," left tackle Duane Brown confirmed to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Brown said players met before practice and ultimately decided to take part in the session, but added the issue isn't over and they will reconvene, according to Wilson.

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien held a meeting Friday morning to inform the players about McNair's incendiary remark so they would not be "blindsided" by the ESPN story - published later in the day - in which his comment was revealed, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Brown - who recently returned after a six-game holdout - didn't hold back when criticizing his team's owner.

"It sickened me," he said, according to Wilson.

DeAndre Hopkins took a "personal day" Friday, O'Brien told the media. However, his absence was reportedly related to McNair's comments. The star wide receiver is still expected to play in Week 8.

McNair has since apologized for his comments, which came at the recent league meetings, saying he didn't mean them "literally."
