New York Giants wide receiver Brandon Marshall will readily shoulder his share of the blame for his new team's 0-4 start to the season.
He's just not going to think about it.
"I don't want to spend my time talking about what we did in Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4. If we do that we're not going to get out of the hole that we've dug," Marshall said, according to John Healy of the New York Daily News. "I'm moving on. So I respectfully decline any questions about culture, any questions about our losing streak, my play - my play hasn't been where I wanted it to be, I need to pick it up - but I'm not going to waste time talking about a losing environment."
The 12-year NFL vet has caught just 16 of his 30 targeted passes for a measly 139 yards and no touchdowns, while the Giants' 0-4 record represents the worst of the NFC East.
Marshall says dwelling on the poor first quarter of the season will only limit the potential of his team for the rest of the year.
"I don't want to waste too much time thinking about the past. If I do that the future is going to be really ugly."
Marshall's most glaring issue has been an average of just 8.7 yards per reception, a full 4 yards below his career average and nearly 5 yards below his rate over the previous two seasons with the New York Jets.
He sees things starting to turn around against the Giants' Week 5 opponent, the Los Angeles Chargers, who rank 20th in passing yards allowed per attempt.
"I'll have my chances to help out the team and be a solution, right, instead of a problem. We'll figure it out and we'll get rolling this Sunday," said Marshall.
Marshall knows he hasn't met the expectations of fans, coaches, or teammates, but most of all, himself.
"I hold myself to a high standard. The guys around here hold me to a high standard. We have high expectations on all of us and looking at myself in the mirror, I want to pick up my play. I'll do that," Marshall said.
