Bills stadium worker quits after nearly 30 years due to anthem protest

A longtime stadium worker for the Buffalo Bills walked out on his job at New Era Field on Sunday after several players took a knee and locked arms during the national anthem.

The man, Erich Nikischer, held the job for nearly 30 years.

"I waited until the national anthem ended, I took off my shirt, threw my Bills hat on the ground, walked out," Nikischer told WGRZ.

Nikischer said he has no issue with players protesting, but believes it shouldn't be done during the national anthem. He also vowed to never set foot in New Era Field again and said he wouldn't watch another NFL game until the anthem protests stop.

"During the national anthem ... the song that is about our country, our veterans that fight and die for us, it's just something I feel you shouldn't disrespect that way," Nikischer said. "I believe people have the right to protest; I just don't believe that's the proper venue for it."
