The rib injury suffered by Green Bay Packers running back Ty Montgomery isn't as bad as originally thought, and he could play Week 5 vs. the Dallas Cowboys, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Green Bay is viewing Montgomery as day to day.

The injury was sustained on the first play of Thursday's game against the Chicago Bears, but Montgomery wasn't immediately removed and ran the ball four more times. His night ended with five carries for 28 yards, including a long of 11 yards which came after the injury supposedly occurred.

The luxury of 10 days separating the Packers' Week 4 and 5 games could allow Montgomery to return without missing any more than the three quarters he already sat out.

Backup running back Jamaal Williams, who was injured on his fifth and final touch of the game, also escaped serious injury, according to Schefter.

The Packers finished the game with third-string rusher Aaron Jones playing the majority of snaps, but the team doesn't plan on bringing in any outside running backs between games.
