Free-agent kicker Josh Brown, most recently of the New York Giants, has been suspended an additional six games for domestic violence accusations.
A text message from the NFL, sent to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Friday, outlined how Brown - who served an initial one-game suspension at the beginning of the 2016 season - was levied with the new ban.
"We reopened the investigation based on new info," the text message read. "Concluded there was a violation of our personal conduct policy and imposed six-game suspension which he accepted without appeal."
Brown was released by the Giants in October of last year; the team signed him to a two-year, $4-million contract in April of 2016, despite being aware the NFL was investigating accusations of domestic violence brought forth by the kicker's now ex-wife, Molly Brown.
Both the league and his former team came under intense criticism for their response to the situation - the NFL for the minuscule initial suspension, and the Giants for handing the kicker a new deal despite having knowledge of the domestic violence accusations.
Brown, 38, remains unsigned since his release.
According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, he will begin serving his new six-game suspension immediately, despite not currently being on an NFL roster.
