Colts owner Irsay admits Luck unlikely to play Week 1

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay admitted Thursday that Andrew Luck is unlikely to play Week 1 versus the Los Angeles Rams.

Luck hasn't been ruled out, but has yet to participate during the preseason.

"Well, you know again, we're going to talk about it literally later tonight briefly and all weekend and continue to talk about it," Irsay said via Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star.

"I would say again the odds are most likely he probably won't open against the Rams. But let me (be) clear about it: In our own minds it's something that we haven't ruled out. We're going to see where he's at. It would be awesome."

Luck underwent surgery at the end of the 2016 season to correct a shoulder injury which he played through.

Colts general manager Chris Ballard said Thursday that Luck would likely be taken off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list ahead of the regular season. If Luck were to begin the year on the PUP list, he'd be forced to miss the first six games of the season.

In the event Luck can't play against the Rams, Scott Tolzien will likely start for the Colts.
